The top players from the Indian and Pakistan cricket teams might team up next year in the Afro-Asia Cup.

The tournament is likely to be played in the middle of 2023. The previous edition of the tournament was held in 2007. The likes of Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly and other marquee Indian cricketers took part in the tournament.

The members of the two teams last teamed up in the event played in 2007. The tournament will reportedly make its return next year and top players from both the teams are likely to play together.

As per a report in Forbes.com, the players from both teams will team up in the middle of 2023. The report adds that the tournament will be played in T20 format.

“We haven’t got confirmation from the boards yet. We are still working on the white paper and it will be submitted to both boards. But our plan is for the best players from India and Pakistan to be playing in the Asian XI. Once plans are finalized we will go into market for sponsorship and a broadcaster. It will be a massive event. Really, really big," ACC head of commercial and events Prabhakaran Thanraj was quoted as saying by Forbes.com.

The previous edition of the tournament was played in 2007. Back then, the likes of MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag were among players who took part in the tournament. A few Pakistan players were also part of the tournament along with players from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

India and Pakistan now only square off in ICC events and Asia Cups. The two teams last locked horns in the T20 World Cup 2021. They haven't played a bilateral series since 2012/13.
