Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was stopped at the Ghazipur border on Wednesday while attempting to visit Sambhal. Speaking to the media, Gandhi said that it was his constitutional right to visit the area as the Leader of the Opposition, said he was ready to go alone to Sambhal with police but was not allowed.

Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was accompanying Rahul Gandhi, asserted that he holds a constitutional position and has the right to visit Sambhal. She said that Rahul Gandhi should be allowed to meet the victims' families, underscoring his entitlement to perform his duties as the Leader of the Opposition.

Prohibitory orders remain in effect in Sambhal, where several Samajwadi Party (SP) MPs were stopped from entering the district last week. Restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), invoked to address urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger, were initially set to expire on Sunday but have now been extended until December 31.
