Chhava Shramik Sanghatana staged agitation at Pundliknagar water tank to press various Maratha community demands on Saturday morning. The activists climbed the water tank and demonstrated ‘Sholey’ style agitation. The police got them down and took into custody.
Several agitations were held in the state to press the demands of Marathwada reservations and others. In all, 42 youths gave their lives for this cause while cases were registered against around 1,300 agitators. The Maratha community received the reservations but the Supreme Court granted an interim stay to the reservations on August 9. Since then, various Maratha organizations are organizing agitations across the state. On Saturday, Chhava Shramik Sanghatana activists staged demonstrations on the water tank at Pundliknagar to grab the government''s attention. They demanded that the stay on the reservations should be cancelled while the kin of the youths who have sacrificed their lives for this cause should be given immediate aid of Rs 10 lakh and jobs.
The agitation continued for around 25 minutes. DCP, Dr Rahul Khade, ACP Ravindra Salunkhe, API Ghansham Sonawane, PSI Meera Chavan and others rushed to the spot and got the agitators down the tank. The police later arrested them. The agitators shouted slogans like ‘Ek Maratha, Lakh Maratha’, ‘cancel stay on reservations’ and others. Dnyaneswar Gaikwad, Shailesh Bhise, Dnyaneshwar Ghare, Dagdu Shingte, Sanjay Nalawade, Kishor Jadhav and others participated in the agitation.
Meanwhile, MLA Atul Save went to the police station where the agitators were detained. He assured them that he will raise Maratha community''s problems in assembly and get sanctioned from the government.
