Onsite quarantine center for labourers on Samruddhi expressway

Aurangabad, May 6:

Corona infection has hit the construction activity of Samruddhi Highway. Hence, the two contractors - Megha Engineering and L&T have set up onsite quarantine centers at Sawangi and Maliwadainterchange to treat corona positive workers.

It may be noted that both companies started work on the 112 km long Samruddhi expressway in the district from February 2019. However, under the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme, the central government has given an extension of 6 months last year due to lockdown and a 3 months extension this year. However, L&T has completed more than 87 per cent of the work so far, while Megha Engineering has done about 70 per cent. According to the tender, the term of these two companies will end in September 2021. Meanwhile, the corona infection affected work on the Samruddhi expressway. Last year, the entire work was stalled for 5 to 6 months. Similarly, the work has slowed down a lot this year. About 35 per cent of the migrant workers working for the two companies have left, while L&T currently employs 1,400 workers and Megha employs 1,800 workers. All of them have been vaccinated. Those who showed any symptoms are being treated at the quarantine center set up at the site. Both companies have their own doctors. They also call a private doctor if needed. There are 15 workers admitted in the quarantine center at Maliwada and 17 to 18 patients at the Sawangi.

Review is taken daily

MSRDC superintending engineer B P Salunke said that a review of the health of workers and progress of the work in the district is being monitored on a daily basis. All kinds of care of laborers is taken by the contractors. Corona is currently slowing down the work. We plan to complete the work within the deadline.
