Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 Moon Sighting in Saudi Arabia Live Updates: Shawwal Crescent Not Sighted, Ramadan Eid to Be Celebrated in Kingdom on April 10

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia urged all residents in the country to try to see the crescent moon of Shawwal month this evening (April 8). The sighting of the moon will mark Eid or Eid al-Fitr 2024 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on the next day (April 9) and concluding of the holy month of Ramadan. The date of Ramadan Eid depends on the sighting of the moon crescent.

In its order, the top cout in Suadi said whoever sights the moon by naked eyes or through binoculars must report to the nearest court and register their testimony. After sighting the crescent moon the new month begins according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

If the moon is not sighted today, the month of Ramzan will be completed with 30 days of fasting, and the new month (Shawwal) will begin on the next day. In Saudi Arabia, the first Ramadan was observed on March 11. Till April 7, people of the KSA have observed 29 fasts. If the moon is sighted today, KSA will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on April 9. If the moon is not sighted today, Muslims in Saudi and other parts of Gulf countries will observe one more fast, and Eid will be celebrated on April 10.

Oman, Jordan, and Iran observed their first fast of Ramadan on March 12 and will try to see the crescent moon on April 9. The crescent moon sighting tomorrow (April 9) in these countries will lead to Eid al-Fitr celebrations on April 10. However, there has been no official announcement from the other Gulf countries regarding the Eid celebration date.
