Busy officers given responsibility of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign

Nagpur, Jan 31

The birth rate of girls is less than boys in the district. Therefore, in order to increase the birth rate of girls as well as to enable their health, education and social uplift, emphasis is being laid on effectively implementing the Central government’s 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign. The district magistrate, taking the initiative for this, has made the women officer of deputy collector and tehsildar ranks the nodal officer of the campaign.

Women officers, who are already burdened with tasks, will be challenged to make it successful, as they would have to visit the field personally. 11 women officers have been elected as nodal officers. An officer has been given the responsibility of one tehsil and some 2-3 tehsils. As a nodal officer, these officers should ban gender screening, provide attention towards education and standard of living of girls, public awareness about PCPNDT law, prevent girl child mortality, and create awareness in schools, college, girls and women hostels. It will be the responsibility of the nodal officers for implementation of the scheme at the tehsil level through Public Task Force, Block-Task Force, and create awareness about anemia and women health.

For effective implementation of all the responsibilities of the campaign, the deputy chief executive officer of Zilla Parishad Women and Child Welfare Department, will have to coordinate with the nodal officers and supervise the implementation. The responsibility given to the officers already engaged in other works will be very challenging.
