Mumbai: Four arrested for stealing iron bridge weighing 6000 kg in Malad

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 9 : Four persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing a 6000 kg iron bridge in the Malad area of Mumbai, the police said.

Pramod Tawde, Senior Police Officer Bangur Nagar PS said that the cost of the entire stolen iron structure is around Rs 2 lakh.

The police said that on June 26, they received a complaint from the Adani company that a bridge built over a drain to carry large electric wires had been stolen.

"Acting on the complaint, we police scanned the footage of nearby CCTV and arrested four people," police said.

The officials also informed that the stolen bridge was an old bridge as a new bridge had been built there.

"One of the accused is an employee of the firm that was given the contract to build the bridge," added the police.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier on Saturday, the Delhi Police arrested a burglar for allegedly stealing 1.5 kg of jewellery from a showroom in Daryganj in central Delhi, said police.

The accused was identified as Naushad Ali (19), a native of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh. The police said that almost all the stolen articles were recovered from his native place.

"In the intervening night of June 16-17, an incident of burglary was reported in a jewellery showroom at Daryaganj, Delhi, and jewellery weighing 1.5 kg was stolen", said Ravinder Yadav, an officer of the Crime Branch (Delhi).

Yadav further informed, "The incident was captured in the CCTV Cameras installed inside the jewellery showroom. The accused had even tried to sabotage the cameras installed outside the showroom and adjoining shops. CCTV footage of the incident was collected and analyzed and the same was shared with the local informers, the accused was identified as Naushad Ali".

The police further informed that on the basis of manual and technical surveillance, the accused was arrested from Daryaganj.
