Vijay Wadettiwar has finally been announced as the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly. This selection was stalled for the last several days. Today, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced the name of Wadettiwar.
Vijay Wadettiwar has got the responsibility of the Leader of Opposition for the second time. Earlier, before the 2019 elections, the party entrusted this responsibility to Wadettiwar. At that time, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil had left the Congress and joined the BJP.
Vijay Wadettiwar is known as a learned, aggressive leader of Congress and OBC face of Vidarbha. Originally his village was Karanji in Gondpipari Taluka of Chandrapur. Vadettiwar started his political career from the student movement.
When BJP was dominant in Vidarbha, Vijay Wadettiwar created a new identity here from Shiv Sena. He also served as District Head of Gadchiroli for some time. Originally a Shiv Sainik, Wadettiwar left the party with Narayan Rane after his rebellion.
Wadettiwar was among the supporters MLAs who joined Congress from Shiv Sena along with Narayan Rane. Vijay Wadettiwar established himself in the Congress. In Chandrapur-Gadchiroli district, the influence of Wadettiwar's continued to increase in Congress politics.
He was a member of Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad from 1991 to 1993. He was an MLA on the Legislative Council from 1998 to 2004. Elected from Chimur Assembly Constituency in Chandrapur in 2004. After that he joined Congress with Rane.
Vijay Wadettiwar held the charge of Minister of State for Water Resources during 2008-09. Apart from that, he had the accounts of tribal development, environment, forest. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the second time in 2009. He was the Minister of State in Ashok Chavan's cabinet in 2010.
In 2014, Vijay Wadettiwar won from Brahmapuri Assembly Constituency with a huge margin of votes. After that, the post of Congress regional vice-president came to him. Meanwhile, after Vikhe Patil resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition.
During the last 15 years, Vijay Wadettiwar created a unique position in the Congress. Wadettiwar was in the core committee. During the Maviya government, Vijay Wadettiwar was given a cabinet ministership but it was revealed that he was unhappy because he did not get an account like Mana.
