Savitribai Phule University Play Halted by ABVP Activist Citing Wrong portrayal of Sita

 Lalit Kala Kendra at Savitribai Phule Pune University hosted a play called "Jab We Met" on campus yesterday. The performance was interrupted by an ABVP activist who objected to the portrayal of Sita. Meanwhile, six people have been detained by the Chaturshringi police station in connection with this incident.

The police have registered a case at Chatushringi Police Station against Dr. Praveen Dattatray Bhole, Bhavesh Patil, Jai Pedhanekar, Prathmesh Sawat, Rishikesh Dalvi, Yash Chikhale, and other students from the Fine Arts Center. 

On February 2, three plays were presented at the university's Fine Arts Centre, with the drama based on Ramayan and Ramleela being the third one. All students were invited to watch the performance in the university's open theatre. The use of offensive language and verbal abuse between the characters portraying Lord Sri Ram and Sita led to the disruption of the play by ABVP activists.

Following the aggressive stance of the ABVP, the main building of the university and the courtyard stage of the Fine Arts Center have been secured by the police. Yesterday, the Savitribai Phule Pune University's Lalit Kala Kendra hosted a play entitled "Jab We Met" on the campus. The show was halted by the ABVP activist, who claimed that Sita was presented in a derogatory way. In the meanwhile, the Chaturshringi police station has detained six people in this case.

According to the police, a case has been registered in Chatushringi Police Station against Department Head of Fine Arts Center Dr Praveen Dattatray Bhole, Bhavesh Patil, Jai Pedhanekar, Prathmesh Sawat, Rishikesh Dalvi and Yash Chikhale and other students.

The harsh speech and verbal abuse between the characters portraying Lord Sri Ram and Sita led Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists to disrupt and stop the play. The usage of profanity and inappropriate discourse between Sri Ram and Sita is alleged to be the reason behind the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's protest.

The main building of the university along with the courtyard stage of the Fine Arts Center has been secured by police following the ABVP’s aggressive stand.
