Lokmat News Network

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A worker was killed while another was seriously injured after a heavy pipe, along with a mound of soil, collapsed on them at Sant Eknath Karkhana Lift area of Jayakwadi in Paithan tehsil of the district on Monday evening.

The deceased worker has been identified as Rewannath Abaji Bobade

(Borgaon, Paithan). Pipeline work from the Jayakwadi dam for the Bidkin DMIC project is currently underway.

A massive pipe was being lowered into a trench with the help of a Poklain machine at around 4.30 PM today.

Rewannath Bobade and Nakul Babasaheb Shelke (34, Borgaon) had descended into the trench to apply grease to the pipe. Suddenly, the belt holding the pipe snapped, and the heavy pipe, along with a heap of soil, came crashing down on both of them.

Witnessing the incident, nearby farmers and fellow workers rushed to the spot and pulled both men out from under the debris. They were immediately taken to Bidkin Rural Hospital, where medical officers examined Rewannath Bobade and declared him dead. Injured worker Nakul Shelke's condition is reported to be critical, so he has been shifted to a private hospital in Paithan MIDC for further treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Paithan MIDC police rushed to the scene. Deceased Rewannath Bobade is survived by three sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. The heavy pipe, along with a mound of soil, collapsed on two workers, killing a 60-year-old worker on the spot, while another worker was seriously injured.
