As hostilities escalate in parts of the Middle East, a significant number of citizens from Maharashtra have been stranded in various Gulf countries while travelling for tourism, employment or on residential visas. According to divisional authorities, 111 people from the Marathwada region are currently stranded in countries including Dubai, Egypt, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Manama, Muscat, Qatar, Sharjah, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Doha, Rehovot and Oman.
The figure has risen steadily as updates are received from the union ministry of external affairs. While the list initially included 34 individuals in the morning, it increased to 111 by evening. Officials said the number could run into two to three thousand, but an exact figure can only be confirmed once an official list is released.
Amid the escalating conflict involving Iran and Israel–United States tensions, several Middle Eastern nations have been affected. Many Indian tourists and workers are reportedly stranded in the region. Of the 111 from Marathwada, 10 are from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and all are reported safe. Efforts are underway by central and state authorities to facilitate their return, according to the disaster management department.

Family from Pundaliknagar safe in Dubai
Pritam Shelar and Harshada Shelar from Pundaliknagar, along with their children Shaurya and Arya, are safe at Aavri Hotel in Dubai, family members said. The family had travelled for tourism. Dubai airport has reportedly been damaged in the conflict and remains closed. They will be informed about further travel arrangements once a revised flight schedule is announced, Pritam Shelar conveyed to relatives over the phone.
