Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
As the city's water supply was gradually returning to normal, on Thursday afternoon, the power supply to the 1200 mm diameter pipeline at Jayakwadi was disrupted, causing the water supply to halt. As a result, the water supply was suspended for five hours.
Water schedule delayed by a day
The holy month of Ramzan has begun, and next week, there will be celebrations for Holi and Dhulivandan. Against this backdrop, the disruption in the water supply has caused frustration among the citizens. For the past month, the water supply times have been reduced. Citizens are complaining about the situation where water is available only for half an hour to one hour, and that too only once every six to seven days.
The 1200 mm diameter water lifting system was stopped at 3 pm on Thursday due to a technical issue. The rotor needs to be repaired and reinstalled. Water supply is expected to resume between 8 pm and 9 pm. The gap of five hours has disrupted the city's water supply. The water will reach the city's elevated storage reservoirs (ESRs) late at night. The stages scheduled for Thursday afternoon will be completed on Friday. Dattatray Gaikwad, the Executive Engineer (Technical) of the municipal corporation at Jayakwadi, mentioned that the stages will be delayed by one day.
Cidco-Hudco localities are also affected
Due to the disruption in the water supply schedule in the city as well as the Cidco-Hudco areas, there has been a lot of frustration among the citizens. With water supply being provided once every six to seven days and the gap between supply increasing, citizens will have to rush for water during the festive season.
Activate 900 mm water pipeline
With the increase in water demand during the summer, the Municipal Corporation has requested Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) through a letter to fully activate the 900 mm diameter water pipeline to maintain a smooth water supply.
A 900 mm diameter water pipeline has been laid at Rs 193 crore, through which 75 MLD of water is to be supplied daily. Currently, it is reported that only 20 MLD of water is being supplied from this pipeline to the city. To bring 75 MLD of water at full capacity from the pipeline, the municipal corporation has shown readiness to cooperate with MJP by preparing for a shutdown. The municipal corporation has requested in a letter that three 425 HP pumps be installed at Jayakwadi to facilitate water supply.
