With cases of cervical and breast cancer rising rapidly in the country, the government has decided to administer the HPV vaccine to schoolgirls aged 14 to 15 in the city as a preventive measure. A total of 12,961 girls will be given the vaccine free of cost. A task force meeting was held on Monday in this regard, where it was decided to create awareness among parents.

The meeting was held in the presence of health committee chairperson Dr Sunita Solunke and additional commissioner Ranjit Patil. The introductory remarks were delivered by Dr Ujjwala Bhamare. To ensure the success of the vaccination drive, it was decided to organise meetings of teachers and parents in schools. Paediatricians will address concerns and clear doubts among parents.

The campaign will be conducted from 9 am to 2 pm at municipal hospitals in Bansilalnagar, Cidco N-8, Silk Mill Colony, Kaiser Colony, and Cidco N-11. The drive will gradually be expanded to more health centres.
