Aurangabad, March 26:

There are 29,11,755 voters in Aurangabad district from which around 13,000 voters have no photos in front of their names in the list. The highest numbers of such voters are in the Aurangabad West constituency.

The election department is keeping a close eye on identifying the voters going to the polling booths. The officials verify the voters photo identity as per the list. However, the voters with no photos in front of their names have become a headache for the election department. A citizen can cast vote by showing his identity card or Aadhar card while voting within the framework of the law. However, there were more than 35,000 voters with names appearing in more than one voter list, of which nearly 6,000 were omitted in a survey conducted between November and January 2021. Most of the citizens have also submitted their photos to the Booth Level Officers (BLO), but they have not updated in the voting list.

Box:

A district-wise survey has been conducted to remove any discrepancies in the list to reduce the number of false voters and ensure proper voting. Emphasis has been placed on removing names appearing twice in the voter list. In most of the tehsils, we have updated the voter list. At present, the number is around 13,000 voters without photos, said Dr Bharat Kadam, deputy collector.
