Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Doctors at the civil hospital successfully performed surgery on a 45-year-old woman on Friday to remove a large tumour measuring 15 × 14 × 10 cm from her ovary, saving her life. The tumour was detected during medical examinations after the woman complained of abdominal pain and a lump in her stomach. The complex surgery was successfully carried out through the joint efforts of specialist doctors.

The woman, a resident of Savitrinagar in Chikalthana, had been experiencing abdominal pain and swelling for several days. After she was admitted to the civil hospital for examination, a sonography (USG) test revealed a large tumour in the right ovary.

Civil surgeon Dr Kamalakar Mudkhedkar took time out from his busy schedule to be present in the operation theatre and guide the doctors during the procedure. Gynaecologists Dr Kavita Jadhav, Dr Smita Chavan, Dr Lata Vedekar and Dr Shubhangi Nathe played key roles in the surgery.

Epidural anaesthesia was used for the first time during the operation. The anaesthesia was administered by anaesthetists Dr Archana Vasukar, Dr Sanjay Chavan, Dr Vijay Kendre and their team. Sonography specialists Dr Kiran Chavan and Dr Anup Ingole also contributed to the accurate diagnosis of the patient.
