Two separate road accidents on Sunday claimed two lives and left three others critically injured in Paithan and Vaijapur talukas.

In the first incident, a 60-year-old woman, Sindhubai Ghalphade of Katpur, was hit by a speeding car around 5.15 pm at Rahulanagar Phata on the Paithan–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar highway while returning from the Jayakwadi weekly market. She died on the spot. The car (MH-20-EV-3591) was headed towards Sambhajinagar. A video of the incident circulated widely on social media. The Jayakwadi Police detained the driver and seized the vehicle. An accidental death report was filed at MIDC Paithan Police Station.

Earlier the same day, around 11.30 am, a speeding pickup van overturned near Bhatana village in Vaijapur tehsil after the driver lost control. Santosh Vitthal Nikam (37) of Chikatgaon died in the accident, and three others sustained serious injuries. Investigations are underway under PSI Ishwar Jagdale with police personnel Khandu Manchare and Ganesh Khandagale.
