Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Two trucks suffered brake failures in Ajanta Ghat on the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Jalgaon Highway at Sillod tehsil in the district around 5 AM on Wednesday.

Both drivers showed presence of mind and steered their vehicles into the hillside, averting a major tragedy. The drivers and cleaners were injured and were taken to Ajanta Rural Hospital in an ambulance of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Narendracharya Maharaj Sansthan.

The first accident t occurred at around 5 AM, when a truck (MH 20 EG 0952) carrying sugar from Pandharpur to Pachora had brake failure and crashed into the hillside.

While Fardapur Police personnel were carrying out rescue operations, within just half an hour at 5.30 AM, a second truck (KA 32 C 7518) proceeding from Karnataka to Jalgaon also crashed into the hillside at the same spot and overturned.

Police personnel Bharat Koli, Firoz Tadvi, and the ambulance driver narrowly escaped. Notably, traffic flow was not disrupted due to either accident.

A total of 18 such incidents have occurred in this ghat over the past two months, repeatedly causing traffic disruptions. Tourists and commuters are demanding that the government and administration urgently address the dangerous conditions in Ajanta Ghat.
