20 teams established to take action against manja sellers

Aurangabad, Jan 1:

Commissioner of police, Dr Nikhil Gupta established 20 teams to execute action against the nylon manja sellers in the city.

As per the directives of the High Court, action is being taken against the sellers for selling and possessing nylon manja. These teams have booked 15 persons the past two days.

Although, the nylon is banned across the country, it is being sold openly in the market.

The teams established by Dr Gupta executed action against 8 sellers and seized nylon manja from them on December 31. Similarly, on January 1, 2021, the Pundliknagar police booked sever persons in this regard.

CP, Dr Gupta said, considering the adverse effects of the nylon manja, action is being taken against all the small and big traders found possessing or selling manja. The youths and the sellers apart from executing action are also being counseled about the ill effects. A meeting of the Vyapari Mahasangh will also be organized in this regard, he said.

Meanwhile, all the kite and manja sellers have discarded the nylon Manja as the police started taking action for possessing and selling the nylon manja. Manja was not seen at the shops at various parts of the city. The shop keepers have also highlighted the clippings of the news from the newspapers about the directives of the High Court about the Nylon Manja in their shops.

Environmentalist, Dr Kishor Pathoak said that in all 78 birds of various species were injured due to the nylon manja last year and were brought to the doctors for treatment, out of which 44 died. However, there is no statistics of the small birds entangled in the nylon manja until now, he said.
