A 52-year-old man was killed on the spot after his speeding car crashed into a truck on the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Pune Highway near Jikthan Chowk around 6.30 am on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmikant Patange, a resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

According to a police report, Laxmikant was proceeding towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar from Pune in his car (MH-20-GK-9542), along with his wife and pet dog. Near Jikthan Chowk, Limbegaon, the driver of the truck (MH-20-FZ-7099), seeing a speed breaker ahead, suddenly applied brakes, causing the speeding car behind to crash into the rear side of the truck.

The front portion of the car was completely damaged in the accident. Patange suffered serious injuries, while his wife and dog, seated in the back, escaped unhurt.

Patange was rushed to the government medical college and hospital (GMCH), but doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case has been registered at the Waluj police station.
