Aurangabad, Feb 27:

The Aurangabad tehsil topped in the district in collection property tax while lags behind in water charges collection.

The district has 867-gram panchayats in 1341 villages of nine tehsils. The Aurangabad tehsil recorded 70.97 per cent property tax while water charges collected registered at 63.23 pc. The political interference is proving hurdles in the taxes collection.

Deputy Commissioner of the Development Department has instructed the Panchayat Samiti Department of ZP to concentrate on the recovery of water charges.

ZP deputy chief executive officer (Panchayat Samiti) Sunil Bhokre said that they are taking different initiatives under ‘Sundar Majhe Gaon Abhiyan’ to create awareness among villages with the help of gram sevaks.

The target of water charge was Rs 15.50 crore while Rs 9.80 crore was recovered. Gangapur recorded the highest water charges collection while Khuldabad the lowest. The proper tax recovery target was Rs 41.26, while Rs 27.86 crore were collected by January end. This is highest in Aurangabad tehsil and lowest in Khuldabad. The Rural Development officers and gram sevaks were given the target of 100 per cent taxes collection by March-end.

The tehsil-wise water charges and property tax collection pc is as follows;

Phulambri (59.20 and 57.07), Sillod (63.01-65.34),

Soyegaon (58.17-62.40), Kannad (63.20-70.69), Khuldabad (55.45--52.00), Vaijapur (62.62--62.21), Gangapur (66.20--70.39), Paithana (63.57--66.04), a total of all tehsils (63.23--67.55)
