A man addicted to drugs allegedly pawned his family’s gold jewellery worth lakhs to sustain his addiction to ganja and MD drugs. The City Chowk police arrested Suraj Jagannath Tiwari (31, resident of Kailasnagar), who was caught red-handed consuming and selling narcotics near the Marathwada Cultural Mandal ground.
Police seized 872 grams of ganja, 7 grams of MD powder, 17 injections used for drug consumption, and a sharp sword from his possession. The court has remanded him to police custody till March 20. For several days, drug addicts had been frequenting the area near the Agriculture Bhavan close to the ground. Acting on this, a team led by assistant inspector Manoj Shinde, sub-inspector Ajit Dagadkhair, and Sanjay Rathod conducted a midnight raid on Tuesday and apprehended Tiwari on the spot with narcotics. The operation was carried out by assistant constable Munir Pathan, Baban Ippar, Anand Vahul, Manohar Tribhuvan, Dayanand Swami, and Nisha Jadhav.

B.Com graduate, retired father
Tiwari, a B.Com graduate, reportedly fell into drug addiction due to bad company. His wife left him due to his habits. His father is a retired government employee. Police said that after becoming addicted to MD drugs and ganja, he eventually began selling them. During the investigation, it was revealed that he had pawned his parents’ gold jewellery worth lakhs to finance his addiction. This is his first entry in police records, and the City Chowk police are now tracing his suppliers.
