Aurangabad, July 10:

Petrol price has gone up to Rs 108.17 per liter and diesel to Rs 98.70 per litre. On June 10 last year, the price of diesel was Rs 67.25. If the surge continues, diesel might cross Rs 100. This will lead to a severe rise in inflation.

Petrol and diesel prices have been rising for the past few months. The hike started on May 2. Earlier, petrol and diesel prices were hiked from December to February. but from March 1 to May 3, petrol and diesel prices were stable. During these two months, the price of diesel was reduced by 40 paise. On May 3, the price of diesel in the city was Rs 88.95 per litre. However, on May 4, diesel price was hiked by 29 paise. This was followed by a continuous hike till today. Between May 4 and June 4, diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 9.26 per litre. From January 6 to June 4, diesel prices were hiked by Rs 16.21 per litre. There is also an increase of Rs 29.42 paise over the last one year. If the hike continues, diesel prices in the city are likely to cross Rs 100, according to petrol pump vendors. In Aurangabad city, surcharge has been imposed on petrol and diesel prices. As a result, pump vendors from out of the city limits pumps are supplying diesel to industries and other establishments in the city at a lower price of Rs 2 to 3. It is alleged that the district supply officer as well as the revenue administration are turning a blind eye towards this practice.
