Aurangabad, Oct 28:

Ahmed Saeed Qureshi was honoured with this year’s Anant Bhalerao Memorial Award for his contribution in the field of Himroo weaving and its conservation. Anant Bhalerao Prathishthan has instituted the award. President of the Prathishthan Madhukar Anna Muley presented the award to Ahmed Qureshi in a programme held here recently.

Its secretary Dr Savita Panat, treasurer Dr Prabhakar Panat were also seated on the dais.Ahmed Qureshi started weaving Himroo at the age of eight.

There were limited designs at that time, but, tried new designs and patterns of weaving.

The credit of depicting lotus flowers of Ajanta caves on Himroo goes to him.Imran Qureshi, speaking on behalf of his father Ahmed Qureshi, said that today’s award is a reward of hard work done till today.

“Many people become jobless due to the spread of Novel coronavirus. Himroo can give employment to unemployed youths. They should learn Himroo weaving and earn a livelihood.
