Aurangabad, Feb 12: The urban development minister, Eknath Shinde, is going to take a review of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) at a meeting in its headquarters during his city visit on Saturday and all are eager to know what major announcement for the city comes from the minister.

There are many posts lying vacant over the last many years. The staffing pattern to fill up various vacant posts in AMC is pending with the state government and all are hopeful of getting it cleared from Shinde.

The Satara-Devlai area was included in the AMC limit four years ago, but sufficient fund was not sanctioned by the government for its all-round development. AMC has been demanding Rs 375 crore for constructing roads and drainages in the areas. It would be interesting to see how much AMC gets granted in today’s meeting.

The civic chief has been working as the chief executive officer of much hyped Smart City project for the last six years. The urban development department has suddenly appointed another CEO. There is a dispute over appointment of the second CEO. The municipal commissioner is ex gratia CEO, then how another person was appointed CEO, is the prime dispute. This dispute has already been referred to the government. Many hope that Shinde may settle the dispute in the meeting.

AMC has to put Rs 250 crore towards its own contribution in the Smart City project and Rs 24 in garbage processing plants of Rs 148 crore. It is expected that the minister will give some economic relief to AMC by giving money for these two projects.
