Aurangabad, Oct 15:

The Food Save Committee (FSC) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to frame a law allowing attendance of only 50 invitees in the wedding ceremonies or social gatherings to curb wastage of food in India.

The FSC through a memorandum drew the attention of the PM towards the wastage of food in large quantities (more than 50 pc) in the lavish weddings and social gatherings even as 22 crore citizens in our country are deprived of food and 70 lakh children are suffering from malnutrition. The growing wastage of food is also posing a threat to the environment.

During the present Covid-19 pandemic, the government is granting permission to invite 50 guests to attend social gatherings. A law be framed to fix the limit of guests to 50 invitees permanently, which would allow us to achieve the goal of developing a hunger-free nation, the FSC said.

An FSC delegation comprising office-bearers Anant Motale, Shrichand Jagyasi, Chandrakant Vajpayee, Nandkumar Kulkarni, and others submitted a memorandum to the PM through Rajya Sabha MP Bhagwat Karad this morning. Copies were submitted to union food minister and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray also.
