Aurangabad, Dec 24:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), through a door-to-door survey, has detected 69 persons suffering from tuberculosis and leprosy diseases in the city, during the last fortnight.

Earlier, the state government had ordered all the municipal corporations to conduct a door-to-door survey to detect persons suffering from the above two diseases. The first phase of the survey was conducted from December 1 to 16, and the AMC claimed of surveying 2.36 lakh citizens by visiting door-to-door during this period.

Under the drive to detect persons suffering from TB ailment, the health officials detected 661 suspects, and after testing, 48 patients were suffering from tuberculosis. Meanwhile, under the drive to trace leprosy ailment, the health personnel noticed 995 suspects, and after testing 21 patients were found suffering from leprosy disease.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said, " As per the government directives, the second phase of the survey is carried out from December 17 to 31. The City Tuberculosis Officer (CTO) Dr Prerna Saklecha and leprosy programme officer (PO) Dr Sushma Dhanawale will supervise the second phase of the survey."
