Aurangabad, Dec 24:

In a surprising development, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), learnt that 26 citizens had arrived in the city by air from Britain, during the last one month. Of all, the civic administration had traced nine persons, and now it has launched a hunt to locate 19 others to conduct RT-PCR tests of them.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said, " Of the nine persons returning from Britain, seven of them stays in the city. We conducted RT-PCR tests of all seven, and they all had reported as negative. We will now locate 19 others and conduct RT-PCR tests of them as soon as possible."

The AMC has received a list of international passengers arriving in the city from November 24 to December 23. As per the list, 26 persons arrived at the city airport during the last one month. The AMC got the details with names and contact numbers of these passengers from the airport authority. The AMC officials are trying to locate them on the war-footing basis through cell numbers, said Dr Padalkar. These citizens would have had undergone various tests before returning to the city, but we will call them for RT-PCR tests as a safety measure, said Dr Padalkar.

The MoH also clarified that the AMC''s quarantine centres in various parts of the city would remain in possession of the civic body till January.

It is learnt that the property-owners or institutes through correspondence are requesting AMC to give back the possession of their properties by removing the quarantine centres. MoH made it clear as there is a fear of a second wave of Covid-19 to hit back again in the state during January and February; therefore, we could not hurry in taking the decision.
