Aurangabad, July 5:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seems to have taken a vow to promote sports or physical activities in the city by attracting funds from various government departments and sources. The civic body has decided to construct two cycle tracks on two different roads from the Smart City fund and playgrounds at Garware Stadium and T V Centre by attracting funds from the state's Department of Sports and Youth Welfare.

Pandey pointed out that two bicycle tracks, on both the sides of the roads extending from MGM to Central Naka and TV Centre to Salim Ali Lake will be developed. Under the Smart City Mission, the Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) will be constructing bicycle tracks of length 20 km in various parts of the city through the Smart City fund. In the first phase, the track of 6 km long has been developed on road from Kranti Chowk to Railway Station, while the cycle tracks on the above two roads will be of length 4-km each. The works will start in one week, said the AMC administrator A K Pandey.

Playgrounds for children

Pandey underlined that the civic administration will soon be appointing a project management consultant (PMC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for constructing a mini sports stadium on the open ground behind the Commercial Complex at T V Centre.

" The grounds of Garware Stadium and T V Centre will be thrown open for the children to play. The children would be able to play football, volleyball, basketball and hockey at the Garware Stadium. The construction of the swimming pool will also gain momentum. Besides, a tennis court will be constructed inside the hall. Meanwhile, the open ground at T V Centre is Phase II development works. A mini-stadium will be constructed. Hence the DPR will be prepared through the PMC and then it will be sent for approval to the commissioner of the state's Department of Sports Omprakash Bakoriya to get the fund. Bakoriya has assured of extending all possible help on behalf of the department, said Pandey.
