Aurangabad, June 26:

The anti-encroachment section of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has received more than 100 complaints relating to encroachment on government and private lands, recently. However, the civic authorities claim that they are helpless as the majority of the cases regarding government land are sub judice.

A racket is active in the city for the past few years. They project a private person as land-owner, through influence insert his/her name as the owner on the PR Card and usurp the land owned by various government offices like Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Wakf Board, Revenue, Forest Department, Cidco, Archaeology, etc. There is no system to verify property while its registration at the property registration branch. This is encouraging the encroachers, who then prepare bogus documents to grab the land. The incidents of encroaching upon open spaces in the city have also been increased.

The AMC has received more than 100 complaints in the past six months in this regard. It includes more than 12 plaints regarding encroachments upon government land. Of which, many cases are sub judice. Hence, we are waiting for the court's final verdict, said the head of the anti-encroachment section R P Nikam. However, the encroachments had been increased in various parts of the city during the pandemic situation, he pointed out. There were some incidents where the AMC removed encroachments without having any complaints. The encroachments on revenue, forest, archaeology department's land had been increased. If these offices register complaints with us or need our help, the AMC will extend all help to them. However, the AMC had not received any complaints.

Encroachments on AMC acquired open spaces

The AMC has acquired open spaces in many housing societies. These spaces are reserved for development purposes. There is registration at the town planning and estate section of AMC. We will procure a list of encroachers from these sections and after verifying the status of PR Cards, we will gear up to remove the encroachments, pointed out Nikam.

The civic officials removed encroachments made upon five acres of land which was a part of the Himayat Baugh; on open space situated behind Mahatma Gandhi statue in Shahgunj; in Rohilla Galli-Kile Ark, pucca construction made in a nullah at Shambhunagar; in the bed of Kham river, near Subhedari Guest House etc.
