Aurangabad, March 5:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation administrator A K Pandey today ordered the civic authorities to clean up the nullahs linked to the Kham River before the monsoon.

There are many small and big nullahs that release their sewage and other waste in the river. As a result, the water body is getting polluted. To prevent further pollution, the civic chief, during his site visit, ordered to clean up these nullahs by arranging the required workforce and equipment to complete the task before the onset of the rainy season.

It may be noted that the AMC, through people's participation, had undertaken the task of reviving the Kham River under the state government's Majhi Vasundhara Yojana. The desilting, training and cleaning of the river had started from Aurangabad Cantonment Board (ACB) office. Every Saturday, through people's participation, the garbage (dry or mixed) is removed. It is claimed that garbage weighing up to three tones had been removed from the river and its surroundings so far. Besides, 2,000 saplings had also been planted on both sides of the river bed. AMC had undertaken the river project with the help of the Smart City Mission team, EcoSattva, Varroc, various societies, organisations and individuals.

The additional chief executive officer (ASCDCL) Arun Shinde, deputy CEO Pushkal Shivam, head of solid waste management (SWM) Nandkishore Bhombe, garden superintendent Vijay Patil, EcoSattva's Natasha Zarine, deputy engineer (mechanical) D K Pandit and public relations officer Sanjeev Sonar were present on occasion.
