Aurangabad, May 25:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey, under Atmanirbhar Yojana, has proclaimed that hereafter the task of desilting and cleaning up all the nullahs in the city will be performed by the civic sanitary workers. Besides, the AMC will soon be procuring JCBs, poclains, and tipper trucks required for the purpose.

Every year, the AMC spends around Rs 2 crore on the task of pre-monsoon works. Hence the contractors impatiently wait to get the works of cleaning the nullahs. Setting aside this old practice, the civic chief has decided to become self-reliant and assign this responsibility to AMC's sanitary workers and personnel. Presently, the AMC started using its JCBs, poclains, and tipper trucks for the purpose. Besides, the AMC procured a few JCBs and tipper from the CREDAI and is bearing the fuel expense of these vehicles. Hence, the wise decision helped AMC save around Rs 1.5 crore, it is learnt.

Pandey said, " The system is being introduced so that the nullahs in the city will be cleaned up by the AMC staff only. It has been decided to purchase 6 JCBs, 3 poclains, and 10 tipper trucks. These vehicles will be purchased soon. The AMC jurisdiction is comprised of nine zones. As per the scheduled plan, one JCB and two trucks will be spared for each zone, while one poclain will be shared by the two zones. The allotment of vehicles will be on a permanent basis. This will help AMC to clean up the nullahs plan fully and also perform the same task during the other seasons after the monsoon." Meanwhile, the AMC through ASCDCL had procured three mini-size sweeping machines, and the proposal of purchasing six more is in the pipeline. One sweeping machine will be allotted to each zone. The task of maintaining dust-free roads will be a regular affair during the whole year in each zone, pointed out Pandey.
