Newly appointed municipal commissioner Amol Yedage on Saturday said the government has given him an opportunity to work in the historic and industrially prominent capital of Marathwada, and he considers it a matter of responsibility and privilege.
“There is tremendous scope for work in this city. We will work collectively for its overall development and ensure better civic services for citizens,” Yedage said after formally taking charge at 5.40 pm from outgoing commissioner G. Shrikant. Speaking to mediapersons, Yedage said his first posting as an IAS officer was in the Marathwada region, where he served as chief executive officer of Zilla Parishad, Beed. “The government has once again entrusted me with responsibility in Marathwada, particularly in its capital city. Over the past three years, G. Shrikant has initiated several important schemes and development works. We will strive to complete those projects and focus on strengthening basic infrastructure for citizens,” he said.
He noted that the coming years would be crucial from an industrial perspective and assured that he would work with the entire municipal team to deliver results. “This is my first posting in a municipal corporation. I will make every effort to ensure measurable outcomes,” he added.

Warning against irregularities
Soon after assuming charge, Yedage held a meeting with all department heads in the municipal hall. He sought preliminary updates from officials of the roads, gardens, water supply, and finance departments. He advised officials to avoid any irregularities in their functioning. Referring to visible water leakage on roads while arriving at the office, he stressed the need for coordination between the roads and water supply departments. He urged officials to take inspiration from civic bodies such as Mumbai and Pune and work to their full potential.
Day-Long Meetings Scheduled Today
The commissioner will hold a series of meetings on Sunday. Department heads have been instructed to prepare presentations detailing existing staff strength, current work profile, and a six-month vision plan. A separate micro-level review meeting with select officials is also scheduled.
