Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Mayor Sameer Rajurkar on Monday announced the names of 10 nominated Co-opted corporators in the municipal corporation. Based on proportional party strength in the House, the BJP secured five nominations, followed by AIMIM with three, while one seat each went to Uddhav Sena and the Shinde faction.

A total of 115 corporators were elected in January from 29 wards across the city. The quota for nominated members was fixed in proportion to each party’s numerical strength. As per the agenda, the selection process was initiated on Monday morning. Group leaders of various political parties had submitted their lists to the Mayor, following which the names were formally declared. With 57 corporators, the BJP secured five nominated seats. AIMIM got three, while Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) and the Shinde faction received one each. The municipal secretariat had invited applications for the 10 posts, of which 52 were found valid. The nominated corporators will be allowed to enter the House after their names are published in the official gazette. AIMIM has nominated its members for a term of one year, while other parties have selected members for a full five-year term. Following the announcement, the newly nominated corporators celebrated outside the civic headquarters with firecrackers and the throwing of gulal, leaving the area covered in colour.

Dissent across parties

The race for nomination was intense within the BJP, with several aspirants lobbying actively. The announcement of five names reportedly left many disappointed, triggering internal discontent. AIMIM too witnessed strong competition, with unsuccessful aspirants reportedly assured consideration after a year. In Uddhav Sena, eight leaders were in contention. In the Shinde faction, the selection reportedly sidelined some local leaders, leading to dissatisfaction within a section of the party.
