Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Additional Sessions Judge S S Gorwade on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail applications of the three suspected accused involved in the attack on an election rally.

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) elections were completed recently. An attempt was made to attack former MP Imtiaz Jaleel during an election rally taken out by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

The anticipatory bail applications of Shaikh Naeem Qureshi, Sajid Qureshi and Sahil Kaleem Qureshi were rejected today.

It may be noted that an election rally led by former MP Imtiaz Jaleel was organised from Baijipura to Nawabpura area in the city on January 7 for the CSMC polls.

Candidates Feroz Khan, Munshi Bhikan Shaikh and Almas Amjad Khan, along with 100 to 150 people, participated in the rally. When the rally reached near Bashir Lawns, the accused Kaleem, Habib, Shakeel, Awez, and others shouted slogans and threw eggs at the rally and the police, disrupting the rally and creating chaos. They also attempted to attack Imtiaz Jaleel.

The mob is accused of vandalising vehicles, throwing stones, and using wooden sticks and sharp weapons. A case was registered at the Jinnsi Police Station in this regard. The accused had filed applications for anticipatory bail. Additional Government Pleader adv Raju Pahadia opposed their bail applications on behalf of the government.

The court observed that the accused had gathered an unlawful assembly and created chaos in the political rally. They also attacked and damaged a car.

So, it is necessary to investigate the motive of the accused behind this attack and seize the weapons. “This is not possible without police custody of the accused,” the court noted and rejected the bail applications of the accused.
