The Sukhna River, which flows through Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts, is currently trapped in a vicious cycle of encroachment, pollution, and illegal sand mining. In particular, polluted wastewater and solid waste from the Chikalthana industrial area are being discharged directly into the riverbed, posing serious health risks to residents living along the riverbanks.

To tackle this growing crisis, the Sukhna Bachao Janandolan Sangharsh Samiti has submitted a memorandum to Environment Minister Pankaja Munde. The key demands include construct Kolhapuri-type weirs (bandharas) and develop ghats along the river to restore its structure and beauty; remove encroachments from the riverbed and halt illegal sand mining activities; prepare a dedicated Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the revival and conservation of the river; allocate substantial government funding for the river’s restoration.

The memorandum was duly signed by office-bearers and prominent members of the committee, including Dr. Shivaji Huse (Founder President), Ashokrao Kale (President), Dr. Balasaheb Belge (Secretary),

Bhausaheb Ghuge (Vice President), Shivajirao Dandge, Suresh J. Patil, Prof. Sandeep Huse, Eknath Dole, Rameshwar Palaskar, Chandu Navpute, Narayan Awghad, Babasaheb Pathade, Sopana Kolkar, and others.
