A group of 14 armed assailants created havoc at Mahakali Kala Kendra in Chorakhali, located on the Solapur- Dhule road, late Saturday night, looting valuables and damaging property worth several lakh rupees.
According to police, the attackers entered the premises carrying koytas and swords, assaulted residents, and threatened women. A worker, Mahadev Pawar, was also injured in the attack. In a complaint filed by artist Kashish Sherkar (20), the accused allegedly broke into her residence inside the centre and stole Rs 2 lakh in cash, gold ornaments including a 5-tola locket and a 12-gram chain, along with other valuables, collectively worth around Rs 5.10 lakh. The group also allegedly vandalised property including gym equipment, air conditioners, television sets, refrigerator, cupboards, 70 chairs, water tanks, jars, CCTV cameras, household items, and even a parked car, causing losses estimated at Rs 3 lakh. Yermala police have registered a case against 14 accused, including named individuals and unidentified persons, and further investigation is underway. Further investigation is being conducted by police sub-inspector Swapnil Bhojgude. Earlier, two individuals had died by suicide allegedly due to personal issues linked to such centres, while firing incidents have also been reported. Frequent clashes had led to cancellation of several licenses following police reports.
