Asha worker died due to heart attack, says Chavan, Collector clarifies after death of woman from Vaijapur tehsil two days after vaccination

Aurangabad, Jan 31:

The death of the Asha worker Corona warrior of Borsar Primary Health Centre in Vaijapur tehsil Surekha Gadekar (52) was not caused due to Covid-19 vaccination but due to a heart attack, clarified district collector Sunil Chavan.

Speaking to LT, Chavan said on January 29, Gadekar was administered vaccine. After vaccination at Vaijapur sub-district hospital, she experienced nausea and her ECG was done the next day. The deceased was taking medicines for the past one year due to hypertension. It is all on the record. Due to the reaction post-vaccination, her sugar test was also conducted and it was found that she had diabetes. The doctors at Gangapur advised her to shift to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Aurangabad. However, the woman went to Shirdi for treatment. Meanwhile, she died. Two doctors conducted postmortem (PM) at Aurangabad. After the PM, an emergency meeting of the Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) committee was held in which the report was examined. Consultant officer for WHO, Aurangabad division Dr Mujib Sayyed, Dr Makrand Kanjalkar, Dr Yashwant Gade, Dr Meenakshi Bhattacharya along with cardiologist, neurologist, pathologist, microbiologist, forensic expert, district health deputy director Dr Swapnil Lale and others were present. The committee concluded that the death of the woman was caused due to heart attack.

134 have reactions but no major issues

Until now, 116 vaccination sessions have been completed in the district. Out of 12,000 Corona warrior beneficiaries, 8,200 have been administered vaccine doses while AEFI was reported in 194 cases, in which there were no major symptoms, Chavan clarified.

Meeting of doctors today

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the doctors regarding vaccination will be held on Monday morning in the presence of district collector Chavan. Discussion on the new guidelines issued by the Government regarding the vaccination to the frontline Corona warriors will be held.
