Seeking help at an ATM proved costly for a local resident after an unknown person stole an ATM card and fraudulently withdrew Rs 1.15 lakh. The incident occurred on January 26 at an SBI ATM near More Chowk, Bajajnagar, MIDC Waluj. A case has been registered at the Waluj MIDC police station.

According to the complaint by Ashokant Tulshiram Kadam (40) of Lakshminagar, Bajajnagar, he visited the ATM around 2.30 pm to issue a cheque order using his wife Sunita Kadam’s ATM card. When the machine failed, he sought help from a man present there. The man took the card, attempted the process twice, claimed it was unsuccessful, and stole the card. The theft went unnoticed initially. Later, Kadam received a mobile alert at 1.29 pm showing a Rs 10,000 withdrawal. Three more withdrawals of Rs 10,000 each followed, along with a single swipe transaction of Rs 75,000, taking the total fraud amount to Rs 1.15 lakh. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
