Thieves tampered with an ATM machine and withdrew Rs 40,000 using the card of a senior advocate after it got stuck inside the machine. The incident occurred recently in the Dashmesh Nagar area. Advocate Nebhan Chanchlani (Pratapnagar) had gone to the SBI ATM centre at Dashmesh Nagar on the afternoon of January 19 to withdraw cash. When his card got stuck in the machine, the transaction stopped midway. Chanchlani immediately went to the nearby bank branch to seek assistance. However, by the time he returned to the ATM centre along with bank staff, an unknown person had already withdrawn ₹40,000 in cash from his bank account using the same card. Chanchlani lodged a complaint with police inspector Sangram Tate of Osmanpura police station. Based on the complaint, assistant police inspector Shivaji Chaure registered a case. What exactly happened? According to the police, the thieves had deliberately tampered with the ATM machine beforehand so that cards would get stuck. When Chanchlani inserted his card and attempted a transaction, an accomplice of the thieves was present inside the ATM centre. He allegedly observed the PIN, and as soon as Chanchlani left to seek help from the bank, the accused used the same card to withdraw Rs 40,000.
