Attempts to dodge railway regulations proved expensive for several passengers as the Nanded division of South Central Railway conducted a special ticket-checking drive, uncovering as many as 500 cases in a single day. A total fine of over Rs 3.42 lakhs was recovered, sending a strong message to those travelling with a casual “nothing will happen” attitude.

The drive was carried out on March 26 between 6 am and 8 pm across the Nanded division. As many as 28 ticket examiners conducted surprise inspections on 25 trains, catching numerous passengers travelling without valid tickets or irregularly. During the operation, 449 passengers were found travelling without tickets. An amount of over Rs 2.14 lakhs was collected towards fare, along with over Rs 1.15 lakhs as penalty. In addition, 15 cases of irregular travel were detected, leading to recovery of Rs 3,730 in fare and Rs 3,750 in fines. Furthermore, 36 passengers were found travelling without booking their luggage as per rules. A penalty of Rs 5,500 was recovered from them.

Appeal to Passengers

South Central Railway has urged passengers to travel only with valid tickets and to ensure that accompanying luggage is properly booked as per regulations. Travelling without a ticket or in violation of rules is a punishable offence under the Railway Act. Passengers have been appealed to cooperate with the railway administration to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable travel.
