Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

An attempt to stage a ‘Ghada Fodo’ (pot-breaking) protest over water scarcity near Wadgaon Kolhati on the Solapur–Dhule National Highway led to a case being registered against 21 persons, including Zilla Parishad member Lalita Sonawane and Panchayat Samiti member Dattatray Varpe, at MIDC Waluj Police Station.

Police said residents had planned the protest over long-standing water shortage issues, but permission was denied as the site falls on a national highway and could disrupt traffic. Despite this, on March 6, around 80 to 100 protesters gathered in the Khavdya Dongar area carrying water pots and earthen pitchers and raised slogans.

Some protesters allegedly threw earthen pots towards the police and blocked a public road in the Swastik Nagar area while beating steel containers with sticks. Police detained several protesters and registered a case at MIDC Waluj Police Station.
