Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The enthusiasm of Dhulivandan celebrations on Tuesday turned into concern in some areas as colour and water play resulted in eye injuries. Water balloons and forceful splashing of water using containers directly on the face left several people with red and irritated eyes. In one case, chemical colour entering the eye affected the vision of an eight-year-old child.

Ophthalmologist Rajeshwari Pardeshi-Jaiswal said that four patients were treated. Two had colour particles in their eyes, one sustained an injury from a water gun, and another was hit forcefully by a water balloon. An eight-year-old boy had purple chemical colour enter his eye, causing severe burning, continuous watering, inability to open the eye and sensitivity to light. Examination revealed redness and slight reduction in vision. The eye was immediately washed thoroughly with water, followed by antibiotic eye drops, lubricating drops and medicated ointment.

Four treated at GMCH

Four patients were also treated in the ophthalmology department at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), including two children. They were treated at the outpatient level and no serious condition was reported, said department head Archana Ware. Civil surgeon Kamalakar Mudkhedkar stated that no patient reported to the civil hospital. Ophthalmologist Rohit Bang added that four patients were treated during the day for redness caused by colour entering the eyes or accidental finger touch while applying colour.
