Dr Babsaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) is planning to open a centre in America.

Vice-chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole held preliminary discussions with American deligation which visited Bamu on Thursday.

The delegation was led by David J Ranz, Consul General of the US Consulate General of Mumbai.

Yoon Nam, Cultural Affairs Officer and Tasneem Kalsekar (senior cultural affairs advisor) from the US Consulate General of Mumbai accompanied David Ranz.

Pro-VC Dr Shyam Shirsat and registrar Dr Jaishree Suryavanshi were present. Earlier, VC Dr Yeole gave information about the university to the delegation. As per the New Education Policy, State or Central will have the freedom to open centre abroad.

VC Dr Yeole said that Marathwada has a rich cultural legacy and the university plans to Centre in America for heritage and research projects on Ajanta and Ellora caves.

“Bamu has emerged from a rural background. The strength of its students and research aspirants is high. We will be happy to have an exchange agreement with the university,” said David J Ranz.

Chemical Technology Department head Dr Pravin Wakte, Bajaj Incubation Centre director Dr Sachin Deshmukh and International Centre director Dr Vandana Hiwrale gave information about different initiatives being implemented by their centre. Dr Suresh Gaikwad, Dr Bhagwan Sakhle and others were present.
