Aurangabad, May 18:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey today has ordered the civic officials to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to beautify the campus of the city's pride Bibi ka Maqbara with the assistance of archaeology officials. The AMC would be removing encroachment existing around the heritage monument, repair and construct DP road, provide adequate electricity supply, etc. as a part of the project.

It may be noted that the monument is visited by lakhs of domestic and international tourists every year. However, it has been observed that they had to face hardship in approaching the site due to the narrow roads, encroachments around it, and spread of darkness due to the absence of streetlights. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the State Archaeology have agreed to co-operate with the AMC in the DPR.

A joint meeting with all these officials was held in the office of the municipal administrator today. The AMC's city engineer S D Panzade, deputy commissioner Aparna Thete, executive engineer Sanjay Kakade, deputy engineer B D Phad, assistant director of town planning Jayant Kharwadkar and officials of ASI and state archaeology were present in the meeting. All the proposed works will be funded by the department of tourism. The DPR will be sent to the state government for approval, it is learnt.
