Aurangabad, Nov 2:

The Buddhist International Network (BIN) has urged the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to take care of Buddhist Caves and Stupas, built during the Maurya Empire, in the region and other parts of the state.

BIN had called a nationwide agitation to press their demand. Accordingly, the morcha in the city was taken out, after paying floral tribute to the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Bhadkal Gate.

After reaching the archaeology office, the delegation comprising Rahul Sonawane, Tushar Mottling, Mayappa Turai, Vinod Kumar Bansode and Nandu Khotkar presented the memorandum.

The memorandum pointed out that many big and small stupas were found at Ter in Osmanabad district. Besides, the officials also found the statue of Lord Buddha during excavation. The office should also preserve the stupas built during the regime of King Ashoka at Nagpur, Akola, Nasik, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Pune and other districts, stated the memorandum.
