Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Following the Zilla Parishad president and vice-president elections, the BJP on Thursday won three subject committee chairperson posts unopposed, while the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) received the Social Welfare chairperson post. Both Shinde Sena and Uddhav Sena boycotted the polls. Of 63 members, 31 participated 25 BJP, four NCP, and two independents/Prahar—strengthening BJP’s ZP dominance.

BJP-backed independents Sachin Garad, Meenakshi Pawar, and Anita Mote were elected chairpersons. Dr Balaji Sonatakke of NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) took Social Welfare, while Women and Child Welfare went to BJP. Health and Construction committee chairs will be announced in the first general body meeting. Although Shinde Sena and Uddhav Sena were expected to ally against BJP, their boycott aided BJP’s control. Presiding officer Santosh Gorad declared the elections unopposed and handed certificates in the presence of deputy collector Sangeeta Rathod and officials. OBC Welfare Minister Atul Save, MLA Anuradha Chavan, district and city leaders congratulated the winners. Nomination forms by Maha Vikas Aghadi’s Krishna Patil Dongavkar and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) Pathrikar were not filed on time, resulting in an unopposed election.
