After local leaders of the BJP and Shinde Sena announced an alliance for the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, several office-bearers from both parties filed nominations against each other. A meeting of senior leaders to resolve this issue, scheduled for Thursday, did not take place. As a result, seats where the alliance could not be finalized are now likely to witness friendly contests.
Elections for 63 Zilla Parishad and 126 Panchayat Samiti seats are scheduled for February 5. While both parties announced the alliance and allocated seats, aspirants from both sides ignored the seat distribution and filed nominations against each other yesterday. To resolve the issue, Shinde Sena leader and Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat, BJP leaders including OBC Welfare Minister Atul Save, and MP Dr. Bhagwat Karad were supposed to hold a meeting, which did not happen. The alliance in the district now appears limited to just the announcement stage.
