Aurangabad, June 26:

The local BJP leaders, office-bearers, and activists have resorted to ' chakka jam' at Akashwani Square today morning. The agitators claimed that the sitting government is against the rights of OBC as it had not submitted empirical data after the Supreme Court cancelled the OBC's political reservation in Maharashtra. The participants shouted slogans and were holding placards reading slogans like 'OBC ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein; Jo OBC ki heet ki baat karega, vahi yaha par raj karega.... etc.

There was a sheer violation of social distancing and other Covid norms. The majority of the activists were not wearing masks. The police detained more than 100 agitators. MP, Dr Bhagwat Karad, MLA Atul Save, city president Sanjay Kenekar and others spoke to activists gathered in the open yard of a mall, situated at Akashwani Square. The speakers leave no stone unturned to blame the state government for the reservation issue. Meanwhile, the traffic on Jalna Road was disrupted for some time due to the agitation.

The Jinsi and Jawaharnagar police station cops detained more than 100 leaders and office-bearers including Karad, Save, Kenekar, former mayor Bhagwan Ghadamode, Mahila Morcha state president Uma Khapre, Sameer Rajurkar, Madhuri Adwant, Amruta Palodkar, Pratibha Jarad, Anil Makariye, Raju Shinde, Rajgaurav Wankhede, Sanjay Phatelashkar and others. After detaining them, the cops placed all of them at Vishnunagar's function hall. The leaders continue to shout slogans against the state government and demanded not to conduct any elections till the reservation to OBC is not reinstated.

To maintain the law and order situation, the police had maintained a tight bandobast at Akashwani Square. The traffic was diverted by placing barricades from the Mondha Naka flyover. The tight security was being maintained from Trimurti Chowk. The deputy commissioners of police Nikesh Khatmode and Deepak Girhe, police inspectors of Jinsi and Jawaharnagar police stations along with their teams were present on the occasion. Earlier, the agitators stopped many vehicles and shouted slogans. Later on, BJP leaders Karad, Save, Kenekar, Wankhede, Rameshwar Bhadwe, Sanjay Jorle and others stopped the police vehicles by sitting on the road. However, the cops controlled the mob gathered at the square and then detained all of them.
