Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A public awareness lecture on body donation was organised at Snehsawali Care Center on January 20 to address misconceptions and provide scientific information about the process. The programme highlighted body donation as a noble social service essential for medical education and research.

The keynote address was delivered by professor and head, department of anatomy, Government Medical College, Dr Archana Kalyankar along with associate professor, department of anatomy, Dr Anant Dhanwate . Dr Kalyankar explained the role of donated bodies in medical education and outlined the conditions required for donation, including consent from relatives and a valid death certificate. She also informed about 24-hour body transport facilities provided by the dean, Dr Shivaji Sukre. Application forms were distributed during the programme.

Dr Dhanwate clarified doubts regarding the difference between organ donation and body donation. Institution president Dr Balaji Asegaonkar emphasised transparency and government monitoring of the donation process. The programme concluded with an interactive session. Dr Sunita Bhave proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Shilpa Asegaonkar conducted the programme.
