Building construction workers deprived of grants

Aurangabad, May 19:

Building construction workers in Marathwada are deprived of honorarium due to online process. The Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Welfare Board secretary has directed the concerned authorities in all the districts to register and renew the workers online. The order is causing great hardship to the workers.

International Trade union Confederation (ITUC) vice president Madhukar Khillare alleged that even today, a large number of construction workers have not been registered. It is alleged that the welfare board has more than Rs 10,000 crore but the workers are not being given benefits. Khillare demanded prompt disposal of pending applications for new registration, renewal and giving benefits to workers of various schemes of the previous year. He also demanded registration and renewal of applications offline as and to pay Rs 5000 per month on the workers registered till March 2020. The ITUC also demanded to pay Rs 2 lakh to the registered workers for building a house and Rs 50,000 for the marriage of the workers daughter. A statement was also made to the divisional commissioner.
